Tree Pruning

  • At Boyle Brothers, our selective branch pruning services are a testament to our dedication to the long-term vitality of your trees. This specialized pruning technique involves specific trimming of branches to encourage proper structure, enhance strength, and promote a well-balanced canopy.

We prune trees in their formative years and their maturity, each job is different. Our expert arborists assess and guide tree growth through precise pruning cuts. This process not only contributes to the tree's aesthetic appeal but also plays a crucial role in preventing potential biomechanical issues such as weak unions and unbalanced canopies.

Selective branch tree pruning is an investment in the future, ensuring that your trees mature into majestic, healthy specimens. It's a proactive approach that pays dividends in terms of longevity, structural integrity, and overall visual charm.

Our selective branch pruning services are a testament to our commitment to creating landscapes where trees thrive and flourish, standing as living testaments to the artistry of thoughtful arboriculture.

  • The reduction in height and/or spread of the crown (the foliage bearing portions) of a tree. Crown reduction may be used to reduce mechanical stress on individual branches or the whole tree, make the tree more suited to its immediate environment or to reduce the effects of shading and light loss, etc.

  • Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches and/or preparing of lower branches for future removal. Crown lifting is an effective method of increasing light transmission to areas closer to the tree or to enable access under the crown.

  • Crown thinning is the removal of a portion of smaller branches, usually at the outer crown. It is usually confined to broad-leaved species. Crown thinning does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree. Common reasons for crown thinning are to allow more light to pass through the tree, reduce wind resistance, reduce weight (but this does not necessarily reduce leverage on the structure) and is rarely a once-only operation particularly on species that are known to produce large amounts of epicormic growth.

  • Pollarding is an age-old system of repeated methodical pruning in which the upper branches of a tree are removed. The result is increased growth at the cut points and a dense head of foliage and branches. Trees are pollarded to limit their horizontal growth which prevents damage to overhead wires, stops them from obscuring street lights or obstructing the free passage of vehicles.

  • Deadwooding is a meticulous and skilled process that involves the removal of dead, dying, or diseased branches from a tree. Think of it as a therapeutic session for your leafy friends, where we carefully prune away the elements that hinder their overall well-being. These lifeless branches not only compromise the aesthetic appeal of your tree but also pose potential hazards. Minor deadwood is a natural product of all trees.

Other Services

  • Tree Felling

This may be necessary if the tree is diseased and requires safe and appropriate removal. Damage from storms or strong winds may have damaged the tree, or if it has outgrown the space and can cause risk to your property. Disturbance from tree roots on property and buildings is also another common cause for tree removal.

  • Stump Removal

When a tree or large shrub is removed, a portion of the trunk or stem will remain in the ground and is referred to as the stump. These can become an eyesore and can also attract fungus and spread decay. We use the most up-to-date stump grinding machinery, so the stumps are ground into wood chips, well below the ground level. The area can then be used for replanting, re-turfing, and other uses.

  • Hedge Trimming

Trimming hedges is a necessary task after planting and an ongoing practice once they've established themselves, ensuring they remain dense, tidy, and well-contained. Our services include swift and efficient hedge trimming, dedicated to preserving the desired shape and structural integrity of your hedges.
